I have been a professional hunter
for 10 years and in the hunting industry for 12 years. I don't
normally get to hunt for myself because the client will always
come first. This time the safari is for me.
A man by the name of Larry, who
is a videographer for Orion Multi Media, bet me I couldn't shoot
a buffalo or elephant with a bow. He indicated only 1 or 2 women
had completed the buffalo with a bow and no woman had
ever taken an elephant with a bow. Of course, I couldn't
turn down the challenge. The buffalo safari fell through due to
personal issues; it was upsetting and disappointing. However,
it was best it didn't happen. I wasn't ready physically or mentally.
Once I realized the buffalo safari was not going to happen,
I put all of my focus and energy in training for the elephant.
I didn't realize how difficult of a task I had taken on. I realized
rather quickly when I was constantly told I couldn't do it.
I knew then it would happen no matter what.
It has been over a year now. When I started, I was only pulling
45lbs. Today, I can pull 85-90lbs depending on the bow. It has
been a long year but will be well worth it when I can prove
all the nay sayers wrong.
